Tumilty took the chance to rest three key players in the build-up to next week’s key clash with Lisnagarvey and was delighted to get out of the match unsctahed.

“It was just a case of get in, get the points and get ourselves ready for next week, to be honest,” he said.

“Eugene wasn’t well so he didn’t play, Bruno (Philip Brown) didn’t play and Owen (Magee) didn’t play either. It was nice to be able to rest a few of the lads.

“It wasn’t a great game because of the wild weather conditions but I thought Newry deserved a lot of credit because they worked very hard. I certianly think they’ll survive ok if they keep playing like that.”

“Our lads did fairly well. I thought Jamie Wright in particular was very good. Fraser Mills did well too and it was great to see Stevie Dowds scoring goals again. He’s on an incredible run.”
