It’s tight at the top, but Saints lead the way

It looks to be one of the closest title races in years in the Larne and District Snooker League with seven frames separating the top seven teams and just six games to go.

St Comgall’s remain top after a close 3-2 win away at Ballylumford. Paul Wylie and Dean McDonagh won a frame each before Jim Magill put Lumford ahead in the third. Ciaran O’Toole levelled the match and Alphonsus McIlwaine took blue, pink and black to secure the win for The Saints.

The Point, who sit level on points with St Comgall’s, had a narrow away success at Greenbank ‘B’. A. McKee, Gary McNeill and Steven Girvan all won for the visitors, with A. Adrian and Roy Johnstone securing two frames.

Greenbank ‘A’, who are also on 58 points, had a 3-2 away win at Larne Legion. D. Johnstone, R. Kinnon and Davy Douglas all won, with Lee Topping and G. Ogilby responding for the hosts.

Latharna recorded a 3-2 win against St John’s, while Linfield keep up the pressure with a 4-1 win against neighbours, Ballyclare Old Boys. John Ferguson, Willy Stewart, Raymond Forsythe and Billy Parke all won with Tommy Hart responding for the Old Boys.

Carrick GC ‘A’ sit on 53 points and can’t be ruled out of contention as they recorded their tenth win of the season. D Newell, Ricky Bradley, Davy Wright and Gavin Baker won, with B. Irvine claiming the only frame for Ballyclare.

Ballyclare ‘A’ recorded their 11th win of the season with a 3-2 away vicory at Carrick ‘B’. Darren Agnew, Stevie Higgins, with breaks of 46 and 35, and Tommy Bamber all won.

Glen Gibney and Mikey Jones took a point each for their team.
