Jamie wins Coronation Cup

THE Coronation Cup, one of Portstewart Golf Club's flagship trophies, was won by 13-year-old Jamie Knipe.

Jamie, who plays off a nine handicap, defeated Johnathan Doherty at the eighteenth in a hard fought final on Friday night.

Using a borrowed driver Jamie visited the bushes at the first and, with Johnathan playing well, went three down after five. A two hole lead was held by Johnathan by the ninth but, in vary nasty weather, Jamie started his comeback getting to all square after eleven. Johnathan regrouped and left the 15th green two up.

Three tough par fours to finish and at two down many a golfer would be written off. Jamie rose to the occasion and rattled off three pars, hitting the pin at the 17th, to take the Coronation Cup by one hole.
