Jan Ling club to host NI Open championships for third year

Local kickboxing club Jan Ling are again this year hosting the Northern Ireland Open Martial Arts Championship in the town.

This tournament, now in its third year, has become the biggest tournament of its kind in the country and it’s now become even bigger thanks to the support of local fitness expert Estelle Wallace.

Creator of the Shrink Complete Fitness Plan, Estelle has sponsored the £500 prize money for the international team event at the local tournament.

Jan Ling coach & NI Open promoter, Ernie Johnston says: “Our tournament has just grown and grown, it’s the competition everyone wants to attend in Northern Ireland, and now thanks to Estelle it’s got even bigger.

“We have secured some of the best teams in UK. Malcolm Evans is bringin over his Lions Den team from Scotland, Jay Daniels is bringing his ASG select Irish team and also, a major coup for the event, Master Alfie Lewis is travelling over with his Mushin Kai team from England.

“None of these teams have competed over here before and there coming to Ballymena in September to take on the best of Northern Ireland.”

The Northern Ireland Open will take place in the Ballymena North Business & Leisure Centre on Saturday, September 6, over 300 fighters are expected to descend on the town this year again.

World class skills will be on show in the disciplines of Pointsfighting, Light Contact kickboxing, Forms, Patterns & Kata.

The tournament has also the unique honor of being the only tournament to hold a Forms/Kata division for Disabled martial artists.

The local martial arts club and fitness expert became involved through the amazing transformation of a local woman.

Ernie explains: “One of our students’ wives, Lizzie Carson, completed Estelle’s Shrink Complete Fitness plan and it completely transformed her.”
