Jan Ling members go for gold in kickboxing finals

Members of local martial arts club, Jan Ling Freestyle Kung Fu & Kickboxing Club, are once again this year going for gold in a series of World Championship events.

Seven members will represent the Northern Ireland Kickboxing team and travel to England, Spain & Portugal with the ambition to add more world titles to the 5 the club collected last year.

Ryan Sharp (14 Ballymena) will travel to Albir, Spain on 28th October to compete in the WKU World Championships. He goes there as current WKU N Ireland champion and also as current WKU World champion in both points fighting & light contact kickboxing.

Curtis Donnell (13 Ballymena) hopes to add to his bronze medal in 2014 when he travels to Albufiera Portugal on 23rd October where he will represent his country in the WKC World Championships in the boys -13yr -55kg points fighting & light contact divisions.

Adrian Mcconnell (16 Ballymena) has been with Jan Ling less than a year, such is his progression in the sport his coaches will allow him to travel to Portugal to fight for a WKC World title in the boys’ 16-17yr +70kg light contact division.

Lisa Millar (29 Cullybackey) has progressed rapidly in the kickboxing scene for the last 2 years and is now ready to step up to world level when she travels to Rugby, in England, on 16th October to the WMO World Championships and to Portugal and competes in the ladies -70kg points fighting divsions.

Brien Gillen (21 Ballymena) is current WKC World silver medalist and will travel to England on 16th October where he will compete in Mens +90kg points fighting division at the WMO World Championships.

Darren Donnell (35 Ballymena) current WKKC world champion will join the N ireland team in Portugal where he aims to add to his growing list of titles by competing in the men’s veterans +35yr light contact and points fighting divisions. He will also join his coach Ernie Johnston on the NI men’s vets team as they go for gold in the team event. Darren has the chance of winning 3 world titles.

Ernie (46 Ballymena) is returning to the World Championship scene after 2 years out and will attempt to win 5 world titles.

The fighters have been training hard for the last 2 months at venues as diverse as the Moat Hill and White Rocks.
