Jason Burns took full advantage of his starting handicap and led at the end of the first lap. The group caught him again on lap two and he was glad of the company as he later said it had been tough leading on his own.

Then on lap five he opened a gap on the downhill stretch from Clough village and he was to maintain this until the finish, where he just managed to hold off the chasing field, which had all amalgamated late in the event, but just failed to reach the front of the race.

Naturally Jason was delighted to have won: “The last lap was really hard after being on my own for three laps, I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to have had much further to go.

“I’m really surprised to have won this race on such a tough, hilly course” added Jason.
