Jim competes at Masters event

The annual British & Irish Masters International Cross Country took place on Saturday at the new Queens University Sports Centre, Upper Malone, Belfast and featured teams from Northern Ireland, Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

Springwell’s Jim Platt was running for Northern Ireland Male Vet 70 team. Jim completed the 6K course in 28:32. The Male Vet 70 age category was won by England’s Les Haynes in 25:11.

The second race of the Sperrin Harriers Winter League took place on Saturday at Lough Fea. Over one hundred runners took part in the scenic 5K race.

Puis McIntyre (16:49) and Anne Paul (20:11) secured their second win in the series.

First home for Springwell was team captain Bryan Edgar in 18:50 (1st MO50), closely followed by David Jackson 19:19, Thomas Moore 19:45 and Jim Breen 19:48.

Conditions were near perfect for the Portrush Parkrun on Saturday. Low tide and firm sand suited the runners with a number of PB’s recorded. Springwell’s Gemma Turley was the first runner home in 21:15 (PB) in a new female course record. Johnny Goldie was the first male runner home in 21:35 (PB).

Next Saturday’s Parkrun is a NAKED RUN, no it’s not what you’re thinking keep you clothes on, it’s running completely free of technology so leave your Garmin, MP3 player, watches etc. at home and go out and enjoy your run.
