Judo expert Marshal Craig is aiming to continue his winning form and grab a medal at the Commonwealth Masters in January.

Marshal picked up a silver medal at the recent North West Open in Londonderry where around 500 martial artists grappled for honours.

The 36-year-old from Donaghy won four of out of five matches in the 100kg-plus category to clinch second spot at the Pilots Row sports complex in the Brandywell.

He now hopes to add to his trophy collection at the top international tournament in Wales where he will face competitors from several nations including Australia, New Zealand and India.

Coach Alan Ashcroft, of the Causeway Judo Club, believes Marshal has every chance of success after his top performance at the local preparation event.

He said: “He did the club proud and everyone was striving for the same thing. The competition was of a very high standard.

“The standard is getting higher every year and the fact that he got a silver medal is proof of his ability.

“I believe that he stands a good chance of doing well in Cardiff.”

Alan, a hugely renowned athlete who has also tasted medal success at the Commonwealth Masters, added that the Causeway club will have more promising news in the next month so make sure to keep up to date with the Times.
