Joe continues his winning streak at Islandderry

FOR the first time in two years Islandderry Fishery, was able to hold its annual Boxing Day competition without the lakes being frozen!

Good numbers of anglers turned out to support the competiton which saw Bill Johnston, Lurgan, continue his winning streak to bank first place with a three fish bag weight of 11lb 12ozs. Bill was boat fishing his usual Minky style patterns to tempt his catch.

Second place went to Robert Allen, Portadown, with three fish for 10lb 5ozs. Robert was fishing from the bank using Nomads and his catch included a nice rainbow trout of 5lbs.

Third was Lisburn angler Joe McCleary with a three for 9lb 5ozs caught on a mixture of lures and nymphs.

Overall, a good day’s fishing was had with every angler catching trout, and most weighing in the competition bag limit of three fish and releasing a lot more trout as well.

Islandderry Fishery is planning an eventful 2012 with regular competitions for seniors and juniors, including the annual All Night Competiton in June.

There will also be events like casting and fly tying days with professional A.A.P.G.A.I instructors, junior fishing days and much more.
