Joel wins Warwick Smart Open

On Wednesday 1st July the Livingstone Golf Society held its annual Warwick Smart Memorial Open Golf Competition at Ballycastle Golf Club.

Bright sunny weather greeted the competitors, some of whom teed-off at 7am in the morning. Over 90 players took part in the competition and the organisers knew scoring would be high in the near perfect conditions.

The Society was privileged to welcome Warwick’s wife Andi and his two boys, Nicholas and Daniel, back from South Africa, for a holiday to renew friendships with some of the players and to present the prizes.

After all cards had been returned and checked the Chairman of the Society David Hynds, welcomed the players to the prize giving. He thanked the Smart family for coming to enjoy the occasion, and also thanked Ballycastle Golf Club for the use of the course which provided a great challenge for the players. He went on to thank the club’s caterers, the generosity of the many sponsors and last but not least the volunteer members, especially Alastair Thompson who worked behind the scenes to ensure the success of the Competition.

The overall winner of the competition was Joel Taggart (43 points), second was Colm Hendrie (41 points) and third was Gareth Curran (40 points).

Des Nevin returned the best gross score of 75 and Susan Davidson won the ladies’ prize with 30 points.

Philip Michael won ‘The nearest the pin’ prize, whilst John Bell won ‘The longest drive’ prize, The triers’ prize went to Pete Shields and Andrew Sweeney won the clergy prize.
