John has top bird after 358 miles from Portland

HARD going up into Coleraine and the North West, birds had been released in Portland in the South of England on Monday 1st July at 9.00am in a Lt Westerly wind with Blue sky and sunshine.

The race route was delayed for three days and the decision was made to bring the convoy back to England. The top bird in the local area was timed by John Connolly of Ballymoney, his bird recorded at 8.26pm flying 358 miles. His bird timed at 10.55pm near dark recorded velocity 762 for the 362 miles and top the Coleraine Triangle. The two birds on the second morning were both in the County Derry RPS, Darran Tosh had 1st Club on velocity 489 ahead of Terence McCrudden who has dominated all year long.

Ballymoney 11/39 – J Connolly 919, Curry & Gilmore 214, D Dixon 193. John Connolly times the only bird on the day to win Ballymoney HPS and tops the Coleraine Centre.

The local Sect B lofts will be using the NIPA Transporter on Saturday for a training toss. Birds will be liberated in either Banbridge or Newry and crates are £3 each. Collection points are at the Ballymoney Roundabout at 8.00am will service the Ballymoney/Coleraine area, Ballee Road West at Ballee in Ballymena at 9.00am, Raceview in Muckamore at 9.45am and finally Glenavy Protestant Hall on the Main Street at 10.15am.

The Portland result is provisional as all measurements have not been received any claims for Bronze, Silver or Gold to be in the secretary’s hands within the next 14 days. Also any claims for the Devine Memorial Trophy for the Best 2 Bird Average.
