John is major trophy winner

ULSTER time trial champion John Heverin was the major trophy collector at the Clann Eireann Cycling Club prize giving function held in the Gate Inn last Friday.

Winner of the overall club league, John also collected the cup for the fastest ten miles time trial, a trophy that he has held for several years.

A special presentation was made and the Billy Stewart cup went to Declan Mulholland who excelled at the Irish Youth Championships last August by winning the road race and taking second and third places in the time trial and criterium.

Other trophy winners on the night were Kenny McConaghy and Michael Murray (junior ) .

The occasion was also marked by a presentation to Malachy Toman for the PIPS suicide awareness charity by Gerard Cavanagh. The amount raised was £1,835, the result of a recent sponsored cycle.

The time trial exponents in the club were delighted to be unexpectedly be presented with a large file of action photographs from cycling photographer Jerome Rafferty.

At Rostrevor last Sunday, John Heverin gave a clear demonstration that he is more than just a very successful roadman, when he took a great second place in the Cross Country MTB race organised by the Newry Wheelers in the nearby forest park. Teammate Conor Grimes was close behind in fourth spot.
