John wins second week of Glens Shield

The fourteen handicapper opened with a good front nine of 21 points, a balancing birdie and double bogey at seven and eight being the high and low points.

Another birdie came John’s way at the par four seventeenth but two sixes at ten and twelve meant a back nine of 19 had to be settled for and it was enough as the runner up Derek Johnston was two points back on 38.

Derek was steady throughout except for a blank at nine and a double bogey at the long fifteenth. Stephen Glass filled third place as a result of his 36 points score. Playing off eleven Stephen blanked the third hole to limit his outward nine to 17 points. He warmed to his task on the way back however to gather 20 points and give himself a total of 36 and third place.

In division two Raymond Dunlop scored 40 points to win by one from Jim Lane. Raymond had two nines of 20 points each. No blanks, only a couple of double bogeys but plenty of pars did the trick for the seventeen handicapper.

Jim Lane had a good first nine, 20, including a two at the par three seventh and even with a six at the tenth added 19 more for his total of 39 points. Matt Colgan also carded 39 points but his back nine of 17 pushed him into third spot on countback.
