Johnny fastest again at Tonaghmore

LAST Tuesday night brought the 2012 club racing to a finish.

The event was the hill climb at Tonaghmore were 17 hardy riders turned up to take part. This is a tough hill and as many Wheelers turned up to watch as the riders that did it.

There are even some Wheelers who have never took part in this hill climb so they must think its hard!

The winner again and doing exactly the same time as last year (56 secs) was Jonny.Kernaghan. John is the fastest Wheeler up hills in the club and this hill suits him as it is a wee bit longer.

In second place was M.Alexander. He too had the same time as last year. J.Daly tied in second place with Mark with both men finishing on 1.01.

D.Lynas was next with 1.02 which was a very good effort as he has not been cycling for very long.

We always give a mention to the riders who catch the eye and there were so many this week but the ladies who took part, namely Dorothy Cantly and Jemma Henning as well as U14 riders Sam Cantly and Jack Priestly, deserve it for taking part as so many decided to give it a miss.

Most unfortunate rider of the day was Karl Wells who punctured 45 mins before the hill climb started and said he hadn’t time to change it, giving all in attendance the biggest laugh of the night.

So well done to all who did give it a go. The fastest rider on the night was Matt Adair whose 53 was a superb effort.

The next event will be the A.G.M followed by the dinner and prize giving on November 16. This is always a good night’s craic with Davy Cartmill’s slide show not to be missed, especially if you have said or done something out of the ordinary during the race season.

Club chairman Billy Maxwell said, “This should be by far the biggest attendance at the dinner as we have just over 40 members now with some more to come next year which is very promising.

“At the dinner we always have a charity event with a difference. Proceeds will go to a very good cause picked on the night.”

With the season over club race sec Clive Adamson would like on behalf of the riders say a big thank-you to those members who helped out throughout the year timekeepers Billy Maxwell and President Derek and Barbara Gamble, marshalls Berty and Barbara Wilkinson, Eddy Cantly, Richie Moffat, and a big thank- goes to Mervyn Maxwell who is retiring. The club wish him a happy healthy life.

The club would also like to thank Geoffrey Toal for the excellent photos he has supplyed through out the year
