Jonathan takes home the turkey

THE annual Inter-Council Match was hosted by Rathmore Golf Club on Sunday so the Rathmore Turkey Sunday transferred to the Dunluce links of Royal Portrush.

As usual six birds were up for grabs and the first grab went to Jonathan Hutchinson (17) for the best of four 36 pointers. A couple of double bogies on the outward nine pegged Jonathan back to 17 points but a much steadier back nine gave up another nineteen points for his winning total of 36.

Barry Magee was pushed into runners-up spot by countback over the final six holes. Barry matched Jonathan’s outward seventeen and inward nineteen points with birdies at the ninth and tenth.

A couple of shots went west at the par five seventh but the finishing holes proved decisive to the seven handicapper. Rory Houston took the third bird with his 36. Playing off his handicap of one Rory birdied the first hole but a double bogey at the third undid this initial good work.

Seventeen points out was the result but a better show was put on for the inward nine as Rory birdied the par five tenth and the par four fifteenth to add 19 points for his total of 36. David Smith, playing off five, took the final 36 spot. David carded birdies at the par three third and the par five ninth for 20 points out. Another birdie was picked up at ten but a blank at the fourteenth pegged him back to sixteen for the nine and his total of 36.

Paul Rohdich secured his turkey with a score of 35 points again via countback. A birdie was logged in each nine but an excess of bogies was telling. Jon Paul McKnight lodged the final 35 for the final turkey, no birdies but a good steady round did the trick for him.
