Johnston hooked a slick brace of fish at, respectively, 5lb 8oz and 6lb 6oz.

Noel Roberts, a Portadown competitor, managed to lift 6lb 2oz and 7lb during success with the rod on the way to a three-fish bag overall.

Roberts edged ahead of Johnston’s final 14lb 5oz bag but the overall tally left the Lurgan man level at the head of the leaderboard with Lisburn’s Ronnie McFadden.

A countback settled the main prize in the favour of Johnston thanks to a five-match review. His 8lb 8oz trout, caught back in January, secured top spot.

Dromore’s Andy McCandless was third over Roberts and Lurgan’s George Dumigan.
