JP Corry Medal goes to Graham at Galgorm

At the halfway stage in the JP Corry sponsored Medal played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club, Gary Boyd (10) was one shot ahead of Samuel MacDonald (20), who was another shot ahead of Robert Graham (22).

John Law (7) and Colin Kinghan (3) were a further shot away followed by Colin Steele (4) who was another shot behind.

Through 13, MacDonald had moved into a three shot advaqntage over Graham with Law and Kinghan hot on his heels a point behind. Boyd, after a couple of double bogeys, was another shot behind along with Steele.

With two holes to play MacDonald was still ahead by two shots from Graham. Law and Steele were a further one and two shots respectively behind with Boyd and Kinghan another shot in arrears.

MacDonald had a disaster in the Lowlands and was overtaken by Graham who now led by one shot.

Graham finished with a par to MacDonald’s bogey for overall victory by two shots with MacDonald runner-up.

Law (two bogeys) and a fast finishing Boyd (two pars) were a shot behind MacDonald and with a better back nine, Law took the honours in Division 1 with Boyd second. Steele (par, bogey) and Kinghan (bogey, birdie) finished together and with a better back nine Steele took third place.

In Division 2 at the turn there was a three way tie between Tony Cheuk (16), Paul Reid (16) and David McAleese (17) with Gary Crabbe (13) two shots behind.

Approaching 14, Crabbe had moved up to join Cheuk and they were three and four shots respectively ahead of Reid and McAleese.

Out of the Grove, Crabbe and Cheuk were still vying for the lead. Reid and McAleese had both gained a shot on the leaders.

Crabbe with a bogey, par finish took first place with Cheuk (bogey, double bogey) a shot behind in second place.

Reid (double bogey, par) and McAleese (bogey, par) finished together a further shot behind and with a better back nine Reid was third.

After the front nine in Division 3 James Hayburn Snr (18) held a one, two and three shot advantage over Geoffrey Marshall (18), Norman Nicholl (25) and Steven Spence (22) respectively. Ian Manson (24) and William Crawford (21) were two shots further behind.

Through 13, Hayburn was two shots ahead of new challenger Spence. Crawford had also moved up and was another shot behind. A further shot behind came

Manson and Nicholl with Marshall slipping back another shot away after bogey trouble at the Maple. Hayburn also ran into bogey trouble up

the Grove where he was joined by Manson and Crawford.

Spence used this to his advantage and went ahead by one shot. Marshall and Nicholl were three shots off the lead.

Hayburn did not let this slip-up deter him and he came home par, bogey for a one shot victory from Marshall (two pars) in second.

There was an exciting four way finish where bogeys had a big say in the end between Spence, Crawford, Manson and Nicholl who finished together and with a better back nine Manson claimed the third place.

Jordan Hood (-1) won the Gross and Leonard Craig (12) the Seniors.
