Jubilee Cup final on Friday

THE first ever Jubilee Cup final will take place this Friday in Lurgan Park starting at 6pm.

Victoria will meet Donacloney in a Twenty20 format.

The Jubilee Cup was initially designed as a pre-season Twenty20 competition between Lurgan, Donaghcloney, Millpark and Victoria.

The first attempt at it was washed out, and Donacloney beat Millpark 2-1 in a bowl-out and Victoria beat Lurgan by the same score.

The tournament was originaly organised to get some competitive cricket before the start of the season, but also to give local sides a chance to play against each other, as a lot of the local sides rarely meet in league competitions.

It was also an opportunity to try and get a good turn out of fans from the four clubs.

Both Victoria and Donacloney have started their league campaign well with Donacloney having won three, tied one and only lost once. Donacloney’s Bruce Topping already has over 200 runs to his name, while McClure has been amongst the wickets.

Victoria have two comprehensive wins from two with the rest of their league fixtures falling victim to the weather. Darren Vennard will be looking to get amongst the runs, with a half century in pre-season to his name, as well as one against Millpark in the cup while Garry McClune will also be keen to make an impact.

Victoria’s bowling attack will be a dangerous weapon as vice-captain Jonny Irwin has taken a five wicket haul in the first game of the season while Jonathon Bunting went one better the following week, and young Andrew Gray is keen to get in on the act as well.
