The local judo club was contacted at short notice to play host to the visitors who were attending the World Police and Fire Games over the last two weeks.

Among the contingent were two Commonwealth Games Champions and all were members of the Indian National Squad.

Children from The Judo Academy had the opportunity of meeting the team and were all afforded the opportunity of pictures and autographs. The visitors were very gracious, enjoyed the local hospitality and even took part in the training session.

Some of the older boys, girls, men and women were privileged to practice with the team; and gained some fantastic coaching advice from their peers.

The team were joined by Lisa Kearney, Ireland’s only female Olympian in London 2012 and multiple World Cup medalist; Lisa Bradley, N.Ireland’s Commonwealth Games Silver medalist and Jim Toland, N. Ireland’s three time World Masters Champion.

There were also representatives from the NI Judo and IJA Judo squads who relished the opportunity to be part of the significant line up of Judo talent.

The most notable trait recognized by many of the parents and spectators was of the respect and humility shown by the guests.

They portrayed all that is good about sport and were true ‘judo practitioners’ in every sense.

NI Judo presented the team with mementoes of the occasion and wished them all the best of luck in the forthcoming World Championships in Rio de Janeiro and at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year.
