Junior star Clements sets the pace

East Coast Athletic Club members were out in force at weekend events in Larne and Ballyclare.

Two of the clubs top talents, Andy Guy and Conor Davies, both of whom are making their way back from injury setbacks, produced excellent performances at the Larne parkrun on Saturday morning (December 6).

Guy claimed third place in a time of 19:08, and was followed by Davies who ran 19:51 to take fourth.

Valued new addition to the club, John Steele once again showed his potential, clocking 22:18 (eighth), while Paul Clements (14th, 23:03) and Brian Maltman (16th, 23:22) reached the Drains Bay finish line less than 20 seconds apart.

Conor Sheridan ran a parkrun personal best 23:46 (18th), and Sandy Plumb continued his recent run of good form, timing 24:31 (21st).

Stephen Smyth showed he’s back to his best after an injury lay-off with a new personal best of 25:11 (24th) to finish ahead of Roy McMullan who cruised into the finish in 27:21 (25th).

The talented Hannah Clements once again proved she has a bright future in the sport when she led the ladies field home in 27:47 (1st lady). her achievement is all the more impressive given the fact that East Coast Cheetah, Hannah, is still within the Under-10 category.

Mark Dean clocked 29:33 (32nd place), which was just four seconds away from his personal best, while Cyndy Hay claimed third in the ladies’ category with a time of 30:26 (third lady).

Later on Saturday, a number of club member made the short journey to Ballyclare for the Malcolm Cup XC.

Rhys McManus, who was running in his first ever competitive cross country race, put in a notable performance to take 17th in the Under-11 race, having covered the 800m route in an 4:04.

In the ladies’ three-mile event, Trisha Campbell looked strong as she impressed with a top-20 placing after crossing the line in 21:05 (20th lady).

Carol Clarke completed the course in 24:29 (65th lady), while Ruth Kelly made a welcome return to competition with a finish time of 27:00 (83rd lady).
