Juniors impress at Shield race

County Antrim Harriers put on a fine display at this year’s McConnell Shield Cross Country in Ballyclare.

The 80th year of this event offered up some tough conditions for all runners, but still the Harriers ran well on their home turf.

Leading the way was Christine Murray (21.17), closely followed by Louise Smart (22.08), Jayne McKeever (23.27), Ruth Morrison (23.39), Irene Downey (23.48), Jane Kinnear (24.38), Rachel Lloyd (25.26), Diane McCartney (27.32) and Marion Morrow (29.24).

In the men’s race, Isaac Fahy led the Harriers home in 32.57, followed by Glenn Smart (35.14) and Aaron Anderson (41.05).

However, the true stars of the day were County Antrim Harriers Junior runners, making their debut in the U14s race: Reece Oliphant Kennedy (7.06) and Charlie Lloyd (7.51).
