Juvenile badminton tournament

OVER 50 children took part in the Coleraine & District Juvenile badminton tournament at University of Ulster sponsored by Brian Scott Engineering.

Grace Richmond of Macosquin won the girls’ singles against team mate Ellie McFarland and the two of them paired up to win the doubles. St. Malachy’s took first and second spot in the boys’ singles with Sean Kennedy defeating Ewan Rogers in a very tight final. Ewan and Sean won the Primary boys’ doubles against Bradley Jackson and Adam Stewart of Bushvalley.

The under-13 girl’s doubles was won by Marie Richmond against Chelsea Moore. Marie and Chelsea then teamed up to beat Kelsey Farlow and Chloe Lennox in the doubles. Angus Johnston won both the under-13 events. In the singles final he defeated Glenn Cole and then won the doubles with George McKeag against Glen Cole and Andrew Semple.

Eva Lennox was a double winner in the under-15 girls’ events. Runner up in the singles final was Jenny Dallas. Eva, along with Sophie Sterne beat Jasmine Anderson and Rebecca Cole in the girls’ doubles final.

Paul and David Moore won the under-15 boys’ doubles against Andrew Lynch and Johnny Crowe. Andrew Lynch defeated Paul Moore in a hard fought boys’ singles final.

District chairman, John Ferris thanked all the players for their participation and all the parents and assistants who had helped with umpiring and keeping the games going. He especially thanked Brian Scott of Brian Scott Engineering for his continued support of juvenile badminton in the district.
