Karate belts examined

Chujo Karate Association held their summer belt examinations at the Ballymena North Business and Recreation Centre on Saturday.

More than 200 applicants from six karate clubs affiliated to the CKA tried for the various coloured belts and for a promotional step-up.

Clubs taking part on the day were from Seven Towers Leisure Centre, Rasharkin Community Centre, Clough Community Centre, Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre and Coleraine Leisure Centre.

Chujo Chief Examiner Dan Redmond complimented the young and not-so-young participants on their performances and discipline.

He was also complimentary about the facilities available at the Ballymena North Centre.

Mr Redmond said he was especially impressed with the stock of top class mats available for use for karate and for other sporting activities.

Visiting with the examination applicants were in excess of 400 spectators and family members who had arrived to offer support to those taking the examination.

CKA clubs are closed for the month of July, but Coleraine and Ballymena clubs will re-open in August.

The other four clubs will re-start their classes in September.
