Portadown’s Colin Turkington of British Saloon Car racing fame, and karting fame in his earlier racing career, presented over one hundred awards making the karting awards one of the largest in Motorsport circles.

Drivers are reminded though that the UKC will hold their AGM next Wednesday 4th December at the Ballymac, Stoneyford. This is an important night with decisions on racing in the year ahead as well as reflecting on the past year. All drivers and their representatives are therefore encouraged to attend, especially since classes for the year ahead will be hot on the agenda along with the election of officers for the new season.

Drivers in the non-gearbox classes wanting to keep race fit over the winter season though will have plenty of opportunity to do so. Kirkistown race circuit, Nutts Corner Circuit and the NW200 paddock circuit will be the focus of the joint venture to form the first ever NI Winter Series.

The next meeting is at Nutts Corner Circuit on 14th December followed by Kirkistown on 11th January, Nutts Corner Circuit on 8th February and then at the NW200 paddock on 22nd February a few weeks ahead of the 2014 season.

Reflecting on the awards ceremony showed that karting remains one of the most cost effective forms of motorsport. With the likes of Belfasts Charlie Eastwood winning the 2012 World Championships, 2013 European Championships and being a British Super One series race winner it was no surprise that he was voted International driver of the year.

Next Wednesday’s AGM gets off to an early evening start and on 14th December the first heat at Nutts Corner Circuit gets underway at 10am.
