Keady men hammered in cup by Coalisland cuemen

The Knockout Cup got off to a mild start on Tuesday night, but league title contenders Max Keady A were on the receiving end of a 4-0 hammering away to Gervins A.

It was a night on which the Plater’s Hill men finally found their form, Ciaran Kelly and Anthony McGuckin with some good breaks as they did their bits to foil the visitors.

But there was no shock in Cookstown as Mitchells A brushed aside the challenge from the B team after Paul McGuckin came back from needing snooker to deprive Ryan Robinson who fired a 38 break, while McKees B made home advantage count when toppling Division Two league leader rivals from McVeighs A.

The gridlock in Division One has been broken, Pot Black moving two points clear of the field after a whitewash home win over McKees A, the Cookstown men now chased by Gervins and Max Keady who played out a 2-2 draw.

McVeighs A are three points clear as Division Two reaches the halfway stage, all matches in this competitive section ending in draws.

Division Three champions McKees C took a while to break free of those with fanciful ambitions, but the return of Oliver O’Neill seems to have worked wonders.
