Keane and Allen perform well at duathlon event in Lisburn

Sunday saw the Lisburn Triathlon Club hold the second race of their Winter Duathlon Series at the grounds of Down Royal Race Course.

With damp and greasy road conditions, two Larne AC members, Martan Keane and Glyn Allen, saddled up and joined a field of 110 athletes.

A fast pace was set early on by two-times Irish Duathlon Champion Paul Carroll, who held on to take race honours in a time of 50:04.8. Keane completed the course in 58:06.6, finishing in 21st overall and improving by 1:40 on his last outing.

Club newcomer Allen, taking part in his first duathlon and fresh from a PB at the Larne parkrun, put in a strong performance finishing in a time of 1:08.28 and 80th place overall. Ian Blair, husband of Larne AC’s Patricia, was next to finish in 1:08:42, 81st place. The final race of the series takes place on April 6.

Addiction 10k

Phelim McAllister, who is in training for the Belfast marathon, had a strong performance at the Larne parkrun, finishing second in 18:09.

Martin Agnew, returning after a lengthy absence due to injury, was next home in a time of 19:35. Glyn Allen recorded a personal best in 23:54, with Richard Vassey completing his first Larne parkrun in 27:27.

Lyndsey Dillon also had a personal best finishing as fourth female in 29:13 with Judith Millar, also a first-timer, finishing in 30:37. 
Michele Woods, a parkrun regular, completed the Larne AC contingent finishing in 30:55.

At Ormeau Park, Danielle McCloskey joined almost 200 runners to take park in the Addiction NI 10k. Danielle had a very strong run and finished in 55:21, smashing her personal best by over three minutes.

Larne AC’s C25K is back! After the great success of last year’s C25K when 85 runners successfully completed the nine-week plan, Larne AC is again calling on beginners to put their best foot forward.

The programme begins on Monday, March 31, meeting each Monday and Wednesday at 7pm in the Town Park.
