Keep your feet

Banbridge Town boss Ryan Watson says his players aren’t getting too carried away with their early season form.

Town are currently sitting just four points off the top of the table with a game in hand on leaders Armagh City. On Saturday, they host strugglers Lurgan Celtic and the manager is hoping that their stellar home form will yield another three points although he says it’s not a foregone conclusion.

“Looking at it on paper, that’s what every is probably thinking but we’ll certainly not be thinking of it like that,” he told the ‘LEADER.’

“We’ll give Lurgan Celtic the respect that they deserve. It’s vital to win your home games though. It’s been a while since Banbridge have had as good a home record as we have had so far this season. It’s the old cliche - win your home games and pick up what you can away. Crystal Park’s a great place for us to play at the minute.

“The club has come on leaps and bounds from where it was at the end of last season. There’s a good atmosphere about the place at the minute.”

Despite their quality early season form, however, Watson says he hasn’t started to dream of securing the Championship Division Two title just yet.

He said: “It’s gone really well so far. The players are all working hard.

“They’ve grown in confidence as the season has gone on. They’ve exceeded expectations so far but we’re not looking too far ahead or thinking about winning anything. We’re keeping our feet firmly on the ground and I’m hammering that home with the players.

“We can’t get ahead of ourselves or we’ll get our comeuppance. Lurgan Celtic is our only focus at the minute and that’s the way it has to be.”
