KELBIE TOPS WISH LIST

GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn has confirmed that he is in talks with Ballymena striker Kevin Kelbie.

The Scotland-based player has recently become unsettled at the Showgrounds and will almost certainly leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

Glenavon and Mid-Ulster rivals, Portadown were reportedly vying for his signature and Quinn has confirmed that he has offered terms to the man who bagged 75 goals in five years at Ballymena.

“I met Kevin a week or so ago and I had a chat with him and basically heard what he had to say,” he told the ‘MAIL.’

“I offered him terms last Saturday and I’m waiting for word back from him at this moment in time. I’ve made him an offer and if he comes back and accepts it, I’ll go back to my board and we’ll take it from there. There will be added expenses incurred with flights to bring him in.

“He’s a good player and a good goalscorer. He’ll be disappointed with only scoring 16 goals this year but he’s a 20 odd goal a season man in my opinion.

“I want to get the supply line a bit better too. Our downfall has been not killing teams off and not scoring enough goals so that’s the area that I’m looking at. I’m looking at another goalscoring wide player as well so we’ll be certainly gearing ourselves for goals. I’ve got to look at the defensive unit as well.”

Also entering the radar are two of the list of players that Glentoran have this week deemed surplus to requirements.

Dean Fitzgerald, Michael Halliday, Kyle Neill, Ryan Berry, Peter Steele and Jamie Marsh have been released from the club whilst Richard Clarke, Daryl Fordyce, Gary Hamilton, Shane McCabe and Andy Waterworth have been placed on the transfer list but Quinn refused to specify which of the players he is interested in signing.

“I’ll be speaking to one or two of them,” he said.

“They’ll have to remain nameless at the moment but I’ll be speaking to one of the players on Thursday night and another one over the weekend. I just want to see where they’re at and where their hunger and desire is as well. Can they fit into my wage structure?

“Things are moving on, I would like to get all my business done within the next two to three weeks and then have a bit of a breather and get the old batteries recharged.”
