Kelly and Liggett on target as Bann Fours get off the mark in Junior Three

Rory Kelly and Nathan Liggett netted as Banbridge men’s fourth eleven picked up their first Junior Three point of the season.

Liggett’s late equaliser secured a 2-2 draw with Instonians Fours.

Banbridge were without captain David Morrison, who had suffered a broken thumb in the previous week’s fixture.

Young Jack Montgomery returned to the squad with Chris Bennett making his debut.

Bann started brightly with Reid and Liggett linking up well however they were dealt a blow when Anderson injured himself after thefirst short corner and couldn’t continue.

McCoy slotted into centre back and was distributing well to find Dean and Calvin upfront who both tested the Instonian defence.

Dean was unlucky not to open the scoring when well positioned.

Instonians started to dominate the midfield towards the end of the half and Bann had to defend strongly to prevent Instonians taking the lead.

As the rain started to pour down in the second half, both teams were probing to take the lead.

After a flowing move through the Bann midfield and front line, Kelly was on hand at the back post to give Bann the lead.

Instonians weren’t behind for long after their forward fired in from an acute angle.

Young was close to giving Bann the lead only to see his reverse stick shot go wide.

Then Instonians won a series of short corners and converted on the second opportunity from a switch to the right of the top of the circle to go 2-1 ahead.

Bann pushed forward looking for an equaliser with Large and Dean coming close.

Bann won their own series of short corners and after an initial shot was blocked, Liggett reacted quickly to knock in the rebound.

Both teams had opportunities to win the match but a draw was a fair reflection of the match.

This weekend, Bann travel to Portadown to take on their Seconds.
