It was a successful season for Dromore athlete Kerry McDowell, crowned this week when she picked up the Ulster Star Award 2013.

The 13-year-old won the Juvenille 12-15 age category award for County Down at the Ulster Athletics ceremony held in Monaghan.

The Dromore Athletic Club member has been competing for a year and is coached by Michael McGreevy.

This summer she won at the NI and Ulster Age Group Championships at Antrim Forum in the U14 Girls category with first place in the 80 metres, second in the high jump and second in the discus.

Also in the summer were the Ulster Schools Multi Events Championships at the Mary Peters Track where she was sixth overall in the Junior Girls.

She was also picked to represent County Down in the All-Ireland U14 Cross Country Championships in Dublin.

The Dromore High School student’s parents said Kerry just loves sport.

They went on to say: “We are so proud of her achievements in her chosen sport and in her for achieving this award.”
