Kettyle steams to cup win at Rathmore

IAN Kettyle continued his current run of form by winning the Norman Caldwell Cup on Sunday.

Ian recorded five birdies and no blemishes on his card for 41 points (net 65) from his handicap of +1. All Ian’s points were needed as there were three more 41s.

On countback, Adrian Proctor (10) was second, double bogies at 7, 11 and 17 proved expensive. Third spot was occupied by Malcolm Irwin (17) and again the dreaded double bogies were evident at seven and sixteen to ruin his score.

The most unlucky man of the day was Club Manager, Willie McIntyre, (this was told to me by someone in the office). Willie (7) was going along nicely with his usual sprinkling of birdies but a wee burst of three putting at each of 15, 16 and 17 did for him.

A blank at the seventh pushed Johnny Birch (5) into fifth place on the best of the 40 pointers with Darren Dunlop (11), also with a no score at the second, in sixth place.

Ben Best should change his name to Ben Best Gross as he again picks up this prize with his 68.
