Killaney team just squeeze through in last end drama

KILLANEY scored a sensational last end home win over Loughaghery in the Lisburn Zone Charity Cup quarter final on Thursday night in a game which was billed “the match of the round’’..

The home team were nine shots ahead at the interval with Malcolm Foreman beating Peter Taylor 8-6 and Eddie Patterson winning 11-4 against Raymond Gourley.

It looked as though Loughaghery were on their way to the semi-final when Philip Dennison beat Graham Christie 11-5 and with an end left Noel Graham was 10-5 up against Roy Copes, but Copes rink lifted a six to give Killaney a sensational win.

Hillsborough Social travelled to Hilden on Thursday night in the Cup quarter final and wiped out the ten shots handicap to take a small lead by the interval before going on to win comfortably with all four rinks up.

Sloan Street are in the Rosebowl semi-finals after winning by 16 shots away to Rock on Thursday night.

Three at the third gave Teresa Cushnahan a 5-0 lead and after Thelma Irwin came back with two doubles Rock led 8-4 at the seventh. Sloan treet added two doubles but Rock got the winning single at the last end.

Three at the sixth gave Pat Cushnahan a 6-2 lead, but John Beck won the remaining ends and included a four to win by six shots.

A three at the fourth gave Frank Cunningham a 5-2 lead but Stephen Irwin replied with a five and led 11-7 with an end left when rock added a double.

A three at the sixth gave Adrian McNevison a 9-1 lead and after P. Connelly lifted a single Sloan Street went on to win by nine shots.

Soldierstown travelled to St Mark’s in the quarter final of the Rosebowl and came away with a comfortable win, while Eglantine had an easy home success over St Columba’s.

Anahilt Presbyterian took an interval lead at home to Aghagallon in the Rosebowl, but the visitors came back after the break to just get through by two shots.
