Kilrea Golf Club Ladies Section celebrate 70th anniversary

THE Ladies Section at Kilrea Golf Club recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Incoming Lady Captain, Teresa Henry, had hoped to launch the new season with the Lady Captain's Start Competition.

Weather conditions however dictated differently and instead it marked the start of the latest period of heavy snow with 'lights out' for a number of days for most of the Province.

The tea and scones did not go to loss however for the hardy folk that turned up, hoping to play.

The Grand Draw took place before the snow set in.

Winners of the fourball prizes to Rosapenna, Portsalon, Greencastle and Newtownstewart were: Dolores McDonnell (Cushendall GC), Cathleen Henry (Kilrea GC), Francis Loughlin (Kilrea GC) & Patricia Bradley (Kilrea GC)

The Lady Captain’s Start competition was rescheduled until after Easter and was followed by a very special presentation coffee evening, marking the 70th anniversary of Kilrea Ladies. The longest registered member, Ephanie Wallace, gave a very entertaining recount of the club’s history from inception to present day.

Some photo albums were also circulated, which certainly caused a lot of amusement. There was a special guest appearance by 'Molly Malone' Cunning before the Lady Captain cut the anniversary cake.
