Kirk Cup success for Lisnagarvey

Garvey played two of their games in the Kirk Cup section last week. At Stormont they began their campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win over Civil Service and last Tuesday they overwhelmed Belfast Harlequins at Comber Road by 9 goal to 1.

The match at Stormont saw Garvey dominate the play for much of the 70 minutes scoring their opening goal in the 4th minute through Jason Lynch with a fierce reverse shot. Jason repeated the dose in the 27th minute giving the visitors a 2-0 lead at the interval.

The second half was again controlled by Garvey but they showed a distinct lack of penetration until the final ten minutes when Aaron Martin scored the goal of the game with a superb first time shot from a narrow angle and Jason Lynch who completed his hat trick with another reverse stick sho in the last minute to give his team a sound start to the season and a 4-0 victory.

Last Tuesday evening at Comber Road, Garvey showed little mercy against Belfast Harlequins in a 9-1 win. Skipper Johnny Bell opened the scoring account with a goal following their first penalty corner and Andy Williamson increased the tally in the 16th minute from a penalty corner drag flick.

Harlequins did grab a goal in the 24th minute after some hesitation in the Garvey defence but Jason Lynch continued his goal scoring form with goal number three, again on the reverse side to give Garvey a 3-1 advantage at the half time stage.

Andy Forrest made the score 4-1 with another penalty corner strike just after the restart and the score quickly became 5-1 when Andy Williamson finished off a good move down the right hand flank.

With Garvey now totally dominant, more goals were inevitable and they were supplied by Williamson. Lynch, Richard Arneill and a final penalty stroke converted by Daniel Buser in the last few seconds to give Garvey a one sided 9-1 win and already 13 goals in the bank after two matches.
