Knox shines as Glynn men maul Ophir

THE referee called time early as Larne Firsts romped to a 73-0 victory over Ophir First XV on Wednesday past, rewarding the good crowd that turned up at The Glynn for the last home game of the season.

The home team started with the greater urgency and it wasn’t long until they were on the score sheet with some great team tries.

However, try of the first half came from flanker Thomas Boyd, who made a break in his own half beat two defenders and ran half the pitch to score.

Flanker Crampsey gave the Ophir lineout a torrid time, competing on every ball, and the back line orchestrated by Garrett and Knox moved play up the field.

Larne finished the first half 35-0 in front with tries from Knox (2), Wright, and Garrett with the latter converting them all.

In the second half, Ophir tried to break down the Larne defence but it was to no avail as the home team continued to score some great team tries, most notably by winger Mills who chased a deft kick by scrum half McIlheron to run in at the corner; and inside centre Knox, who bulldozed over for his hat-trick.

Other scorers included Garrett, McKinty, Boyd and a penalty try.
