Kyle catches the eye to lift McCorry Award

The Rangers attacker, who has been in outstanding form all season, received the Bill McCorry Award from ‘Cash man Patsy Magee. The Tones club has been presenting the man of the match award at the county final since 1994, the inaugural winner was Clan na Gael’s Barry McCabe.

Not surprisingly the Rangers club have won the bulk of the man of the match awards at the Armagh Senior Championship final, former county player Oisin McConville being the most decorated.

Several players including Tony Kernan were in the running for the Bill McCorry trophy, but few would have disagreed with the choice of the winning player. Kyle Carragher this season in all Championship games has been outstanding, particularly against Pearse Ogs in the Gerry Fegan Cup opener, a trend which has continued,

The Wolfe Tones dedicated the Man of the Match trophy in memory of the late Bill McCorry who was a member of the Armagh side which played Kerry in the All Ireland final of 1953, The Tones midfielder was known to be one of the best players of his generation and lined out in the ‘53 final along side captain Sean Quinn, Brian Seeley, John McCarron, Gene Morgan and Eamon McMahon among others. Wolfe Tones coach Patsy Magee and senior player James Martin selected the man of the match at Sunday’s county final.

Patsy said, “Wolfe Tones are honoured to be involved with this award on a yearly basis. We are very proud to be representing the McCorry family who donated this award. Honouring Bill in this way is fitting, considering his contribution to both the Tones and Armagh.”
