“Bodybuilding had originally inspired me to begin lifting weights,” he told Times Sport.

“Lots of great bodybuilders trained in the Atlantic Barbell in Bridge Street where I began, I had always thought of competing in a bodybuilding show but after getting hooked on powerlifting in 2005 it got sidelineD and it was all powerlifting.

“After last June’s Euros I rested a month and decided it was time for change and new goals.

“I switched back to bodybuilding training with a view to competing in 2016. I picked the NABBA-NI show as my goal and requested the help of my good friend and great former bodybuilding competitor Stephen Graham(brother of Sam, who owns our gym, ‘Sam’s Gym’ in Ballymoney), to help with the precontest diet and conditioning.

“So on the second week of January along with my training partner David Anderson and Stephen we set about starting a 15 week prep.

“My plan was to test my feet in the sport,go away and see what I need f or next time around. So to end up winning the Masters Mr NI section was a supprise and really the icing on the cake after 15 long weeks.”

Kyle already has plans to keep progressing in bodybuilding.

“I do see me hanging around bodybuilding for a time now,” he said.

I’ve rested a few days and now decided to take up the invite to compete in the British finals.
