The Coleraine man, who is a relative newcomer to the sport, won the NI title last month, but this finish at the event in Southport really shows his pedigree.

Kyle was delighted with the result but told Times Sport he was really surprised by the outcome.

“My goal realistically for this show was top six as I was conscious of the fact that every competitor who would be there had placed in the top two or three at their regional show earlier this year,” explained Kyle.

“There was 18 guys in total in my class and with the call-outs in the morning’s pre-judging it had indicated that I had made top six.

“So the signs were good for making top six but with nothing sure we had to wait until the night. Later, as hoped, my name was called out for top six with us being then separated from the rest and brought back on stage individually again for our routines, then back on together for the announcements.

“By then I was already happy, but to then hear name after name called out for top six placings and ending up with just two of us was a real happy moment and slightly shocking too. To place second out of all those guys I am delighted!

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my short time in bodybuilding and God willing I will be back next year to try to win the British championships. I am automatically invited now to this year’s Mr Universe but I will wait that level out until I win the Brits first.

“I’d like to thank Sam Graham and all the guys at Sam’s Gym for there help in training and encouragement throughout. I’d like to give special thanks to my partner Lesley-Anne and kids Tori and Jay for their full support always. And to my gym partner David Anderson for his constant push and motivation.

“And Stephen Graham my friend and prep coach whose expertise in bodybuilding competition prep has undoubtedly lead to the success I’ve had in such a short time in bodybuilding. Hopefully we can continue as a team towards a bigger and better package for 2017. Lastly thanks to my sponsor SHN Sports & Health Nutrition Londonderry for all their help, and everyone who has supported me through word or deed in run up to the British finals.”
