Ladies battle their way into the semi-final stages

The Whites can clinch the league title this week and considering their determination in the backs to the wall cup win, the side managed by Mickey Devlin, Barry McQuade and Kieran McGeown will take a lot of beating.

The North Street girls appeared to be struggling against the wind in the opening quarter, they trailed on a score line of 1-04 to 0-02 before their half forward Amy McAllister hit her team’s first goal of three on 20 minutes to keep the eventual winners in the contest.

The visitors were in outstanding form in the opening stages when they prised the home defence open on several occasions but the Whites kept their cool and turned a half time deficit of three points into a lead of two soon after the break.

Armagh player Ciara Lennon was a constant threat throughout, she struck her side’s second and most crucial goal minutes after the break to cap a great performance. Amy McAllister’s second strike of the evening midway through the half was price less but Mullaghbrack to their credit battled gamely to the end.

Against a stiff breeze and a well organised defence St. Peter’s struggled to find their rhythm in the opening stages, although two Ciara Lennon points gave her side an early lead. The Mid Armagh girls bossed the remaining period of the half.

In a 20 minute spell Mullaghbrack hit 1-04 without reply before Amy McAllister kept her side in touch.

St. Peter’s gained an amount of confidence with two clinical scores before the break from Tierna Grimes and their attacking wing back Kate Corvan.

Although the Whites played well as a unit, their half back line of Chloe Lavery, Chloe Magill and Jamie Lee Lavery deserve special praise, the two Lavery girls however were forced to leave the action through injury and at a crucial time when the losers were attempting to pull the game out of the fire.

While St. Peter’s will be keen to maintain their momentum as they attempt to reach this years Championship final, the good form showed by their full back line of Enya Boyce, Emma Keegan and Kate Corvan can push the side to higher goals.

Both Tierna Grimes and Lauren Magee excelled at midfield, supplying sterling possession to the trio of Maggie Mc Grath, Catlin Mc Quade and Kate Headley who is a player who looks a little bit special.

Up front Monica Mc Cabe, and the sides goal scorers Amy Casey and Ciara Lennon will no doubt have a lot more to offer this season, Looking back on last Wednesdays Semi Final the St Peters ladies side will gain confidence from the fact that they showed composure despite being behind in the early stages, and resolve at the end when their defence stood form before breaking forward to provide insurance points from Maggie Mc Grath and one of the games best players Lauren Magee.
