Ladies book spot in Moore Trophy final

CUrran Ladies’ bowls team are through to the final of The Mary Moore Trophy for the second successive year after they saw off Castle Park in the last four of the competition.

The Larne-based club now face Dromore in the showpiece match to be held at Holywood Bowling Club on September 7.

Margaret Shepherd’s rink got Curran off to a blistering start in the semi-final with her rink of M. McGookin, J. Spiers and L. Simms securing an emphatic 22-9 win.

Valerie Noble’s rink, made up of J. Moore, E. Magill and S. Greer, had an altogether different task.

In a nip-and-tuck game, they found themselves 4-3 down after five ends but Valerie rallied the troops and they led 18-9 after 14 ends. But, over the final four ends, Curran conceded 10 shots and lost out 19-18.

Result: Curran Ladies 40 v Castle Park 28.
