Ruth Sutherland had the first strike on goal but unfortunately she was denied by the Randalstown defence. One minute later an in form Ellie Kirgan picked up the ball on the left wing and skilfully carried it along the backline dodging the Randalstown defence and slotted the ball through the narrowest angle into the back of the net.

Despite numerous penalty corners throughout the first half, Ballymoney weren’t clinical enough in the circle to extend their lead in the first half.

The second half saw Randalstown come out all guns blazing. A reverse stick shot at the top of the circle put the visitors on level terms and it was all to play for.

It looked like it was going to finish on level terms until three minutes to go. Susannah Brown collected the ball in the attacking twenty-five and ran it into the circle. With three Randalstown defenders surrounding her she skilfully passed the ball through the to Jan Hamilton who calmly slotted the ball past the experienced Randalstown keeper, leaving the final score 2-1 to the home side.

Meanwhile the Toon ladies had to settle for a draw against QUB in last Wednesday’s Ulster Denman Shield match.

The home side started well and were rewarded for their efforts in the 11th minute as Bridget put an excellent ball through to Nicky Parke in the circle who struck it sweetly hitting the top of the net.

Ballymoney continued to dominate and were unlucky not to add to their lead at the start of the second half , but Nicky’s shot went wide by the narrowest of margins.

It was mid way through the half before QUB made any inroads to the town’s half and scored from a deflection of a penalty corner in 25th min to level the game.

Ballymoney applied further pressure and were unlucky not to come away with the win.
