Ladies in seventh heaven

COLERAINE Ladies 1st XI entertained Enniskillen at the University on Saturday.

The home side got off to a great start scoring in the opening minutes. Emma Jamison’s pass across the circle found Carol Ann Agnew ready to slot home. Only minutes later after great work down the right hand side between Kennedy, Hempsey and Jamison – similar to the first goals it was Jamison’s pass across the circle that gave Agnew her second goal.

This gave Enniskillen a wake up call and they got back into the game winning a short corner but the defence line of Budina, Kennedy, Andrews, Harper and Adams kept them at bay. Coleraine went on the attack and again Agnew was all over the Enniskillen defence finding her way past two defenders to score her hat trick in fine fashion.

Enniskillen fought back again winning another short corner but Ursula Harper running number one blocked the shot on goal and again Coleraine found themselves on the attack. After a great run down the left hand side with Claire Adams and Lindsey Wallace it was Agnew again getting the final touch to the ball to get her fourth of the game. At the half time whistle the home side had a healthy lead 4-0.

The home side started strong in the second half and found their fifth goal of the game and a new name on the score sheet – Sue Nutt’s initial strike on the goal was well saved by the keeper but it fell to Juliet Gaston who skilfully played the ball at knee height past the advancing keeper. The momentum continued and Anne Hempsey was unlucky not to find her name on the score sheet.

Sue Nutt was next on target when her shot on goal was deflected by an Enniskillen defender into the back of the net. With most of the play controlled by the home side, on the odd time when the Enniskillen forwards did get a break the Coleraine defence held strong to keep a clean sheet. Coleraine finished off in style when Gaston scored her second of the game from a tight angle, leaving the final score 7-0 to the girls in red. Many thanks to Ivan McNeill for umpiring.
