Ladies lose out to Lakers and Dromore

LARNE Ladies still have only one point in this year's Davison's Frudles Championship after defeats to Loughgall Lakers and Dromore Amateurs.

A steady start saw Larne match table-topping Loughgall Lakers early on, with goalmouth action contained to an easy early save for Larne keeper Lindsay Noble.

Busy work from midfield resulted in an 18th minute Larne free kick with Marion Conley just failing to connect with Gill Small's lofted deadball into the box. The home side twice attempted to clear defence but with the ball falling to Gemma Lamb, a close to 30-yard half volley rocketed into the top right corner of the net giving Larne a deserved early lead. The game lulled until the last ten minutes of the half saw the away side grittily hold on with Loughgall twice hitting the right hand post with speculative shots from distance.

The second half saw a stronger Loughgall fight back to take a 2-1 lead within twenty minutes of the restart, a long range shot and an own goal giving them the advantage. The seventy minute mark saw a close range header extend the lead to 3-1.

Marion Conley's crisp edge of box shot making it 3-2, she limped off injured and despite a late push and having used all substitutes, ten player Larne conceded a last kick of the game goal to leave Loughgall 4- 2 victors.

In their next fixture Larne Ladies took on Dromore Amateurs at Inver Park.

After a goalless first half a 50th minute free kick from Trish Neill cannoned off the crossbar and out of play. From the goal kick Dromore easily bypassed the midfield and a left wing cross into the penalty box went unchallenged to give Dromore a 1-0 lead.

Substitutes Teah Maguire and Jenna Mulholland came on in the hope of turning the game around but a 75th minute edge of box free kick doubled the lead. A difficult night for Larne ended with a red card for Jacqueline Spence and the resulting spot kick gave Dromore a 3-0 victory.

Larne Ladies thank their away following and this year’s sponsor The Wine Bar and Rainbow Day Nursery for their valued support.
