Ladies put on the style for Easter

The best bonnet prize went to Wendy Rusk but it couldn’t have been an easy decision when you view some of the excellent creations put together by all the ladies.

The ladies were joined by some of the junior girls and a big thanks to Zoe Allen for organising a putting competition for them and accompanying them to the prize giving.

Last Tuesday’s competition was sponsored by Nu Nu Hair Salon and Pam Graham took the honours with 37 points.

Pam has been knocking on the door over the last few weeks and she put together the only sub par round of the day to claim the winner’s spot.

Many of the ladies found the course long and hard going with the ground heavy underfoot but Christine Hagan had no such problems and won the gross with 26 gross points.

Christine had 7 pars in the first 11 holes before she hit the bogey trail on 12 but she finished her round off in style with a fine birdie at the last so all the bad holes will be forgotten.

The number one spot in section one was a close call between Fiona Cummins and Sian Mulholland with Fiona just edging it on the count back despite a birdie from Sian on the last.

Section two went to Eileen McCann with 33 points. Eileen has been playing well and a look at her recent cards reveals that the 17th must be her favourite hole as she pars it every week.

Section three went to Roisin Anderson with an impressive score of 36 points just pipping Pam Morrow by one. Roisin had a steady round and could have been a contender for the number one spot if it hadn’t been for a no score at 16.

The winner of the 9 hole competition was Roslyn Millar.

On Saturday the ladies played their first team match of the year when the Junior foursomes team travelled to Donegal to take on Redcastle.

The team experienced everything that one expects from Donegal weather, rain, hail and even snow, but they came away with a great result away from home.

All the matches were very tight and first out, taking on Redcastle’s leading pairing, were May Baxter and Dianne Patterson who just lost 2/1.

Next up were Nuala Beatty and Katrina Bradford who had a ding dong of a match which ended up with the Lurgan pairing just losing on the last.

The last pairing saw the experience of Clare McGourty gel well with the youthful enthusiasm of Eadaoin Ward and it proved to be a strong combination as Lurgan came out 6/4 winners.

The end result means Lurgan are 2/1 down but 3 holes up so definitely a good platform to build on for the home leg.
