Ladies reach an Ulster final for first time in 14 years

These young upstarts from the Mourne County have been making a name for themselves with their never give up and never give an inch style of play.

Their win sets up an Ulster final against Fermanagh on July 14

It was Cavan who found themselves falling foul of a new invigorated Down side.

“It was going to be a tough game but we dug deep and got the scores at the right time and defended well,” said Down manager Benji Ward spoke after the match.

“We have put in a massive effort and as the old adage states, the harder you practice the luckier you become, and at times we rode our luck.

“There were some great performances from some very young players such as Sinead McNamee, Lauren Cunningham and Christine McCarthy making her debut in the Down nets.

“I’m delighted for the entire squad to be in an Ulster Final, but we haven’t looked past Cavan yet and Fermanagh will be a whole new ball game so to speak.

“ We know what Fermanagh are capable off so we know we are in for a massive battle. We just hope we don’t pick up any injuries in the club championship in the mean time.”
