Ladies seconds impress against strong Malone side

SOUTH ANTRIM LADIES SECONDS 0

MALONE LADIES FIRSTS 1

SOUTH Ladies Seconds, growing in confidence, entertained Malone Ladies at Laurelhill after a well earned rest over the festive season.

Making an encouraging start against a strong and determined Malone side, Claire Louise White made some excellent running to attack the Malone defence with great support from Carly Niblock and Amy Duncan on the right. South’s efforts were rewarded with a short corner but Amy Duncan was unable to convert her effort and with some determined effort from the Malone defence they were soon able to attack the South circle.

Catherine Michaeldes looking very comfortable in the role of sweeper was able to soak up the Malone pressure and a later shot that made its way through was soon swept aside by another great performance by South’s young keeper, Catherine Growcott. South continued to pressure the Malone defence and Claire Louise was nearly rewarded but the shot went wide of the net.

Malone responded with some great attacking play and were finally rewarded when a strong shot from the edge of the circle was deflected into the South net.

In the second half South started strongly with young Emma Tweedie combining well with Alana Richardson to put pressure on the Malone defence but again the Malone defence held firm and were able to clear their lines.

Malone continued with some strong attacking play but were unable to breakthrough with some determined effort from Nicole Robinson and Natalie Lowry in the South defence. South Ladies again made a final effort to get something from the game with Laura McConnell continuing to show lots of promise on the wing combining well with Claire Louise White but to no avail.

Congratulations to Claire Louise White and Catherine Michaeledes for joint players of the match.
