Lady Captain's Day a huge success

GolfSUSAN Crawford held her Lady Captain's Day in glorious sunshine at Ballycastle Golf Club on Saturday with Dette McGarry proving to be a popular winner with an excellent score of 41 points.

Joan Wisener was the top scorer in the section A competition with 38 points just ahead of Catherine Black and the section B prizes went to Rosaleen Colohan with 35 points and Moira McCarry with 34 points. Brenda McNeill won the prize for the best gross score, Kathleen McGowan won the best front nine and Mary Jameson the best back nine prize. The Committee prize went to Carroll Nicholl with 34 points, Christine Hutchinson won the Lady visitor's prize and Kathleen McCarry won the eight hole competition.

The Lady Captain's prize for gents was won by Trevor Thompson with a marvellous score of 44 points, just ahead of Philip Hewitt who took second place also on 44 points with Victor Young in third and Martin Brogan in fourth both with scores of 42 points. Hugh Sayers had the best gross score of the day with a one under par round giving him 37 gross points.

Sunday's competition was a charity team event to raise funds for Chest, Heart and Stroke and this year's winning quartet are: Robin McHugh, Terry McNamara, Eamon McIlroy and Patrick McIlroy with a total score of 121 points.

Ballycastle's Mixed Foursomes team took on Royal Portrush in an absorbing encounter at Bushfoot Golf Club on Sunday afternoon but alas the Portrush team played just that little bit better on the day and they are the ones who progress to the quarter-final stages.

Ballycastle held a very entertaining 'Golf Fun Night' last Tuesday evening with a good turn out of members taking part in challenges such as target golf, the water splash and Velcro golf! Many thanks to all who took part and to Hugh Sayers, Joan Wisener, Willis McWhirter, club professional Damian McEvoy and Club Captain Leo McIlroy for their help in organising this enjoyable evening.

The Glens of Antrim Cup is contested at Ballycastle next Saturday with a stableford competition held on the Sunday.

The following weekend is the start of Open Week at Ballycastle Golf Club and the timesheets are now available on-line.
