Laffin takes victory

A SMALLER number of competitors than usual turned out for the Dave Kane Cycles Time Trial League on Thursday.

Nigel Laffin of Team Madigan recorded the fastest time of 21.39, nineteen seconds quicker than Clann Eireann's Michael Murray. Brendan McCourt of Northern Dave Kane is showing a good return to form with his 22.3, but the man to watch out for in future is Orchard's Robert Anderson. Riding in U16 gears he still managed to spin the legs fast enough to record a 23.09 and take fifth place on the night.

Meanwhile, John Magill from Larne took the win at Team Madigan’s club mountain bike event.

Simon Stockton from Carrickfergus was a very close second by the smallest of margins - one second. Larne's Danny Hylands, starting from scratch and giving away a good handicap on John, was making very short work of the 8 laps and in the end was only 37 seconds behind John on the tough course that saw Danny take third place on the night and first veteran home. Only 23 seconds behind Danny was Glenarm man Geoff McCrory who rode very strongly.

Ian Lockyer from Newtownabbey, in his first year of completive cycling, rode very well indeed to finish only 2.37 down on the winning time. Brian McCammon from Beltoy near Carrickfergus was giving a lot away in age to the rest of the field, but showed his strength to keep going and take full points in the plus 50 category.
