Larne Athletic Club members out in force at May Fair races

The races started in the grounds of Ballyclare Rugby Club after a minute silence in memory of well-known Harriers coach, Greg Hopkins.

The first three men home for the club in the 10k were Wayne Morrow (7th, 0:36:29), Bernard Brady (12th, 0:37:19) and John Neill (14th, 0:37:36).

The first three ladies to cross the line for Larne were Patricia Blair (36th overall, 0:42:08, FV35 winner), Gillian Logan (76th overall,0:45:31) and Roberta Barham (131st, 0:51:29). The club also registered several category wins: M40, Brian Heron (15th, 0:38:09), M45 Andy Gregg (18th, 0:39:20), M65 Charlie Meban (60th, 0:44:41), and F55 Bernie Regan (0:52:12).

In the 5k, Marty Agnew lead the race from start to finish. He crossed the line in 0:18:46 and was followed home by Heather Baxter who was runner-up in the ladies’ category in 0:24:18 (9th overall).

Glenn Lorimer, Emily Boal and Lisa Hamilton also took part in the 5k, clocking 0:25:47, 0:28:18 and 0:29:20 respectively.

Five Larne AC ladies joined over 800 female competitors to take on the Coastal Runher 10k Challenge at Seapark, County Down.

Juliane Keane (37th) and Janine Rainey (41st) both achieved personal bests, finishing in times of 46:44 and 47:34 respectively.

Linda Boyd (108th) ran an impressive 51:53. Tina McAuley (423rd) and Rachel Bahmra (628th) also completed the challenge in 1:00:35 and 1:05:27.

Valerie Muholland, returning to running after injury, completed the inaugural 5k challenge in 39:16.

On Sunday, Phelim McAllister finished eighth in the Newry Marathon in 02:58:22.

David Noble was 28th in the half-marathon in 1:27:00. Ruth Moore was the first female home from Larne AC in 1:52:57 (333rd).

Glenarm races

Under-9s: Eight-year-old David Taylor (7:03) was first in the one-mile race.Four other boys ran sub-eight minutes: Jack Hastings 7:10; James Simpson 7:24; Daniel Nicholson 7:37, and Riley Montgomery 7:45. First girl home was Isla Allen (7) in a time of 8:16.

Ten and over (one mile): Tom Wharry (13) ran a blistering 6:12, closely followed by Will Barham, 6:16. Callum Robinson was third (6:33). Three other boys ran sub-seven minutes: Joshua McKinley-Hutchinson 6:42; Ethan Simpson 6:43; and Josh Montgomery, 6:57. First Lady home was Katy Barham, 7:02.
