Larne bag wins over Transport and Belmont

The two games provided opposition from both ends of the table with Transport looking for points to stay above the relegation dogfight and Belmont aiming to challenge the league leaders.

The match against Transport went pretty much to script with Larne continuing their good form to lead from start to finish.

Gavin Johnston took over the skipping duties from the unavailable David McRandal, and played well to guide his rink to an 11-5 lead at 10 ends. A strong second-half brought the visitors back in touch and they stole the point with a the last bowl to ruin Gavin’s first outing in charge.

On rink three Andy Kyle’s men eased to a 30-15 win and Michael Murphy’s quartet were on top, restricting their opposition to just four scores in a hugely dominant 28-6 success.

Larne won the match by 47 shots and although disappointed not to win all rinks, can be very pleased with six points.

Larne faced a much stiffer challenge away to top Belfast side Belmont. The Glenarm Road men were back to full strength for this one and knew six points would take them into second place in Private Greens League Senior One, as did the home team. The game was close from the start with the home team going a few ahead in the opening ends but Larne played well to stay in touch. Larne made their move from the 12th end and stretched their advantage into the 20s over a great 4 end period across the green. Belmont couldn’t respond and Larne closed the game out for an excellent 20-shot success. It meant they got the six points they needed from the match.

On rink one Kyle’s secured a fine 27-14 win but Alan McLean’s four were always behind and lost 19-11.

David McRandal’s snatched a 20-19 success with Chris Snoddy turning in another top performance at second.

In the final game Michael Murphy guided his rink to a match winning 26-12 result. Eddie Wilson and Andrew Robinson were also in top form as they ground a strong home rink into submission.
